This role is predominantly site-based, however at times the requirement to stay away may be needed.

 

You will be performing Operation & Maintenance duties on utility-scale solar plants with outputs of 3 MW and above.

Ultimately achieving outstanding levels of safety ensuring all our staff return home safely to their families.

The ideal candidate, will be a fully certificated electrician with experience of operating, and maintaining Solar plants at MW Scale.

You will be expected to travel, with the occasion overnight stay, depending on the project size.

 

This is a permanent role and will require availability for weekend on-call duties.

You will be provided with a company vehicle, phone, and laptop/tablet. An overtime system is in place, this is to be authorised internally with a senior member of the SGU team. SGU offers a contributory pension, along with investment in role specific training.


 

Your responsibilities

  • You will always follow H&S requirements, recommending any improvements

  • Carry out reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis within a timely manner

  • Reporting compiling accurate records I-Auditor

  • Inspection, testing, and maintenance of PV modules, DC strings, and inverters

  • Undertaking AC and DC testing, troubleshooting, and fault-finding

  • Troubleshooting and repairs on sensors and communication equipment.

  • Configuration of computer-based devices and components, including firmware updates

  • Carrying out inductions for sub-contractors and supervising their work, and carrying out quality checks, (where necessary).

  • Reporting back to the Operations Manager in the O&M office

  • Occasionally working away from home for training courses or to cover other sites for up to 1 week at a time

  • Full UK driving licence, (max 3 pts)

  • Fully qualified Electrician

  • 18th Edition

Qualifications

 

  • DC installation

  • DC fault finding, (Testing, & Commissioning)

  • LV installation

  • LV fault finding, (Testing, & Commissioning)

  • Remote working, with telephone back up.

  • Solar PV installation experience (MW-scale or large commercial ground-mount)

Essential Skills

Desirable

  • Experience installing or maintaining ethernet and fibre optic communications

  • Experience working with SCADA or data monitoring systems, (COMMS)

  • Central inverter experience

  • High Voltage experience

  • Knowledge of central inverters is highly desirable

  • Principles of High Voltage operations

  • Strong technical understanding of AC, DC, and communications networks

  • Good knowledge and understanding of solar PV technology

  • Inspection and testing qualifications (C&G 2391 or 2394/5) are highly valued

  • First aid qualifications

  • Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH, SSSTS, SMSTS, CSCS)

  • Advanced electrical qualifications, HNC engineering

  • Central inverter training qualifications,

  • High Voltage qualifications and authorisations
