Please welcome Michael, our newest Senior Engineer. Michael brings decades of hands-on engineering, business, and environmental know-how to strengthen Solar Group Utilities’ from day one.

Michael’s early passion for engineering and competition began at just nine years old, building and racing stock cars to championship level. In his teens, he trained as a gymnast alongside Louis Spence, and later developed a keen interest in restoring classic cars—an interest he continues to pursue today.
A committed angler, Michael regularly takes part in carp fishing competitions and has also successfully managed several businesses over the years. For the past 25 years, he has helped restore and manage a 40-acre ancient woodland owned by his family, bringing it back into active coppice cycle.
His proudest achievement remains his family life. Married for over 30 years, Michael and his wife have raised four children and now enjoy time with their growing number of grandchildren. He credits his good fortune to resilience, dedication, and a strong sense of perspective through life’s many challenges.
1. What’s something unique about you that most people don’t know?
Aside from my genetics, which make me fundamentally unique, I tend to think very differently from most people. I approach problems by balancing logic, reason, and emotion in equal measure. This often surprises others — my reactions and perspectives can be quite unexpected due to that mix.
2. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I’d love the ability to turn any water into clean, drinkable H₂O — fresh water for everyone, anywhere.
3. What attracted you to this role?
Stuart and Darren. Their complete transparency and honesty from day one really stood out to me — it’s rare and refreshing.
4. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Treat yourself with the same respect you give to others.
5. If you could have dinner with any famous person, who would it be and why?
Keith Flint from The Prodigy. He was a great friend during my teenage years, and I’d love one more night to reminisce about the good old days
6. Any productivity hacks you swear by?
Do it right the first time, every time.
