Renewable energy resilience starts long before it’s needed

This summer’s extreme weather has sparked renewed discussion around climate change, energy security and the resilience of the UK’s infrastructure. Whatever individual opinions may be on the causes, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: our energy systems need to be prepared for a future where weather patterns may become less predictable.
Renewable energy will play an important role in meeting that challenge, but resilience isn’t created simply by building more solar farms or installing additional renewable capacity.
It also depends on ensuring the infrastructure we’ve already invested in continues to operate reliably, efficiently and safely.
Operations and maintenance rarely attract headlines, yet they are fundamental to the long-term success of renewable energy. Every inspection, every preventative maintenance visit and every piece of performance data contributes towards keeping assets generating electricity when they’re needed most.
The renewable energy sector often focuses on the next project, the next development or the next technological breakthrough. While innovation will always be important, there is equal value in protecting the investments already generating clean energy across the UK today.
Looking after existing assets is not simply about reducing downtime or preventing faults. It’s about extending asset life, improving efficiency, supporting energy security and ensuring renewable infrastructure continues to deliver value for decades.
