We’re really pleased to share some good news from this year’s British Renewable Energy Awards.
Solar Group Utilities has been shortlisted in the Managing New Energy Demand category, and alongside that, our own Jo Baber has been shortlisted for Rising Star.

For a business like ours, recognition like this means a lot.
Not just because of the nomination itself, but because of what sits behind it. Day to day, the focus at SGU is usually very simple. Looking after assets properly, supporting long-term performance, solving problems when they arise, and continuing to improve the way we work over time. Most of that happens quietly in the background and tends not to be the sort of thing people stop to celebrate very often.
So moments like this are worth pausing for.
Being shortlisted in the Managing New Energy Demand category feels particularly relevant to where the sector is heading. As renewable infrastructure grows, so does the complexity around how energy is generated, managed, stored, and integrated into the wider system. It’s an area that is becoming increasingly important, particularly as demand patterns change and infrastructure continues to evolve.
For us, this nomination reflects the practical work that goes into supporting assets over the long term. Not just keeping sites operational, but helping ensure they continue to perform reliably within a changing energy landscape.
At the same time, seeing Jo shortlisted for Rising Star feels particularly special.
Anyone who works closely with Jo will already know the amount of energy, commitment, and care she brings to what she does. The renewable sector is full of talented people, so to be recognised at this level is a fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved.
What also feels important to say is that neither of these nominations happen because of one person, or even a small group of people.
We genuinely could not have achieved this without the wider SGU team.
From engineering and operational support through to planning, reporting, communication, and the day-to-day work that keeps projects moving, everyone plays a role. A lot of the best work in businesses like ours happens quietly, often behind the scenes, and this feels like recognition of that collective effort just as much as anything else.
It’s very easy to look at an award nomination and see a company name or an individual, but the reality is that there’s always a team behind it.
And we’re incredibly grateful for ours.
We’re looking forward to attending the awards, celebrating alongside others doing great work across the renewable sector, and whatever happens on the night, we’re proud to have been recognised.
Congratulations to Jo, and a genuine thank you to the whole SGU team. We simply couldn’t have done it without you.
Because we care.
